Surgical or medical instruments are the set of tools used in surgical procedures. These instruments are designed to provide the surgeon with a tool to perform basic surgical maneuvers; variations are numerous, and their design is based on their function. Surgical instruments can be made of titanium, Vitallium, or other metals, but the vast majority are made of stainless steel. The alloys used must have specific properties to make them resistant to corrosion when exposed to blood and bodily fluids, cleaning solutions, sterilization processes, and the atmosphere.
