It is a prosthesis that is placed in the neck by means of a surgical procedure called Tracheostomy, which consists of making a perforation called a "Stoma" at the level of the "Adam's apple" in the neck and placing a tube with a curve so that it connects the outside with the endotracheal tube.
It is usually done because the patient suffers from some condition that prevents the passage of air from the nose or mouth to the lungs, usually a tumor or a protuberance, the cannula being the way to obtain ventilated lungs, therefore the only access route.
